Task 9 Evaluation

Evaluation

To plan our video we first of all chose the song, we chose this song because everyone knows it and it’s very catchy and upbeat. Using this song will also appeal to our young target audience as most of them will know this song well. To come up with our idea’s we just thought of stupid silly things that could go in there that would fit with the music and appeal to the target audience. To allocate roles we went out with the camera to do test shots, when this happened only 2 out of 4 students were in. This then left me to do the filming and Asha to do the acting, doing this made the roles fall into place. The other 2 people that weren't in they then helped me film & edit the video.

When it came to filming everything went well and according to plan although we didn't get a chance to film all the things we wanted to as we didn't have enough people to film with, this was a downside to the video since we were a small group. We also didn't have enough weeks to actually film the parts we wanted too, this would be an improvement to make if we ever wanted to make another video. All of the group helped when filming except the actor because he was in the video at all times, the actors were also in every week; this means that every week we were able to record something without a problem.

The editing took us a while to do because for most of the video the actor was mouthing the words, this made it harder to place into the video because the timing had to be precise. We also filmed a lot of footage which took quite a while to capture into the programme on the laptop; we then had to cut the pieces we wanted to use to place into the video. Placing the parts into the video wasn't really a problem as I did most of the editing so there wasn't really anyone to discuss where the parts went.

The target audience for our music video is young adults; the reason for this is because it’s modern popular chart music that appeals to young adults and using Asha and Aaron as the actors allows the audience to relate to the video as they are young adults themselves.
The props we used for the music video were all supplied by our group and we used a video camera & tripod to film it. Using different props and locations helped vary the video instead of having it in one place making it more interesting.

Overall I think our video worked well and our teamwork really showed within the outcome. We had a lot of fun making & producing the video. If i were to redo this task again I would get more people involved & make sure we film all the things planned instead of missing things out because of timing apart from that everything was fantastic.

From this unit I learnt how to use a video camera and the different types of shots you can do in video. I also learnt how to use a programme called Final Cut Pro, we used this to edit and add the music to our video. With Final Cut Pro i learnt how to capture footage from a video camera, how to 'mark in and mark out' for the parts of video you want to cut to put into the timeline, how to add music to the timeline, how to speed up and slow down a clip & how to cut parts from a clip while its on the timeline. I think learning all these different things will advantage me in the future because I could end up using that programme again eventually and I would know the basics of using Final Cut Pro.

  1. Jade, you have evaluated your group's performance, identified problems during the production and how you overcame these, and along with your skills development log, you have highlighted your learning from the unit, and how you might apply this in the future. You could have focussed a little more on your video, analysing this in terms of strengths and weaknesses.
