Outline all our ideas, with details on camera techniques, camera shots, times, locations, props etc.

Brief Description of Experiences:

We have all worked well together and have agreed on most of the ideas we have had, the only problems we can for see at the moment is being unable to obtain permission.

Personal Roles & Responsibilities Undertaken:

Complete Risk assessments and Cast & crew list

Brief Description of Experiences:

We all completed our Risk assessments, we worked as a team to get this completed which means that we could be ready to start filming within the next few days. We did each piece of work all as a group so that we all understood what each person was doing.

Date: 5/12/13 – 31/1/14

Location: College classroom
Time (from – to): 1:15 – 4:30pm

Activities: Editing

Personal Roles & Responsibilities Undertaken:

As a team we captured each clip we filmed on the video onto the video camera onto Final Cut Pro. From there we cut the parts we wanted and put them onto the timeline where the video will be made.

Brief Description of Experiences:

We all edited it together, choosing which part goes where. It was fun watching the video back & watching it come together so well. It took us quite a while to edit it together because most of the clips the actor was mouthing the words, which made it harder to match it to the music in the programme – we had to either speed up or slow down each clip.

Date: 15/11/13

Location: Outside of college
Time (from – to): 1-2pm

Activities: completing out first shoot for part of the video

Personal Roles & Responsibilities Undertaken:
We filmed part of our music video, me and Wendy filmed it, Asha was the actor and Devon took care of the props

Brief Description of Experiences: (including problems encountered, teamwork, & what had been learned)

The only problems we encountered was that we were filming in the middle of the street and I was stand across the road filming this meant that car’s kept getting in the way so we had to keep reshooting it.  We all worked together to make a great first part of our music video.

Task 9 - Resubmitted

Planning the video
To plan our video we first of all chose the song so we brainstormed our idea’s and eventually we came up with Thrift Shop by Macklemore. We chose this song because everyone knows it and it’s very catchy and upbeat. Using this song will also appeal to our young target audience as most of them will know this song well.
To come up with our idea’s we just thought of stupid silly things that could go in there that would fit with the music and appeal to the target audience so again we brain stormed our ideas on a3. To allocate roles we went out with the camera to do test shots, when this happened only 2 out of 4 students were in. This then left me to do the filming and Asha to do the acting, doing this made the roles fall into place. The other 2 people that weren’t in they then helped me film & edit the video.

Pre - Production
Before filming we had to fill in pre-production documents, this included risk assessments and cast & crew list. As a group all of us completed the documents, we thought it would be easier doing it all together rather than allocating one person to do one thing etc. Both documents were important because they both protected the safety of the cast and crew during filming. The risk assessments contained potential risks & hazards that we could encounter while filming, the filming could not be started without the risk assessments.

Equipment
During our filming we didn’t use a lot of equipment; we only used a video camera & tripod. For some parts of the video we used a Nikon D3100 and a tripod for that as some weeks we couldn’t get a video camera.
Filming
When it came to filming everything went well and according to plan although we didn’t get a chance to film all the things we wanted to as we didn’t have enough people to film with, this was a downside to the video since we were a small group. We also didn’t have enough weeks to actually film the parts we wanted too, this would be an improvement to make if we ever wanted to make another video. All of the group helped when filming except the actor because he was in the video at all times, the actors were also in every week; this means that every week we were able to record something without a problem.

Problems we encountered
During our filming the only problems we encountered was that we couldn’t film in most of the places we wanted to because we needed private permission from the property owners.

Editing
The editing took us a while to do because for most of the video the actor was mouthing the words, this made it harder to place into the video because the timing had to be precise. We also filmed a lot of footage which took quite a while to capture into the programme on the laptop; we then had to cut the pieces we wanted to use to place into the video. Placing the parts into the video wasn’t really a problem as I did most of the editing so there wasn’t really anyone to discuss where the parts went.

Overall
The target audience for our music video is young adults; the reason for this is because it’s modern popular chart music that appeals to young adults and using Asha and Aaron as the actors allows the audience to relate to the video as they are young adults themselves.
The props we used for the music video were all supplied by our group and we used a video camera & tripod to film it. Using different props and locations helped vary the video instead of having it in one place making it more interesting.
Overall I think our video worked well and our teamwork really showed within the outcome. We had a lot of fun making & producing the video. If i were to redo this task again I would get more people involved & make sure we film all the things planned instead of missing things out because of timing apart from that everything was fantastic.

Task 2 - Resubmitted

Task 1 - Resubmitted

Single and Multi Camera Video Production

In video production there are two different types of camera techniques that can be used. Single Camera Technique and Multi Camera Technique.

Single Camera Techniques

Single Camera recording is used to shoot scenes individually , for example in a film each separate shot or camera angle is taken using the same camera which can be moved and reset for each different shot.
In television most directors go with either Single Camera or Multi camera depending on which type of show it is. For example, most primetime dramas, music videos, soap operas and talk shows will be shot using single camera as it is easier to control and organise.

The advantage of using a single camera set ups allows production to be filmed in a different order which allows different scenes to be filmed at different times in the day. Single camera production can make the final product look more realistic and believable and it gives the camera man more control over the camera when filming.
The disadvantages of using a single camera set up is filming each scene can take a lot of time whereas using a multi camera setup, you can complete the filming and it’s a much quicker process because you’d have more cameras which could capture the scenes much quicker. It would also take a lot of time to edit the final product when using a single camera set up because each scene has been filmed individually.

Multi Camera Techniques

Multi Camera recording is normally used to shoot Sitcoms like Big Bang Theory. Most Multi shots are normally filmed in one take without having to start and stop. The advantages of using multi camera is that there isn’t much editing to do and it’s a lot quicker than using Single Shot cameras as there is no need to relight the scene. The disadvantages of using Multi Camera is that you can’t be particular in  changing the lighting as it needs to suit all camera angles. Also when it comes to having more essential equipment on scene, it can be difficult to place them because it may not be in one camera but it could be in any of the others which means setting up could take more time.

There are a lot of advantages to using Multi camera set up, for example it is a lot quicker than using a single camera set up because there are multiple cameras to shoot multiple things at the same time but from different places and the editing process is a lot quicker because the production is edited at the same time as filming. This works well for soap operas because they have to keep to a strict schedule. Multi camera set ups are good for filming live as the cameras can focus on different parts of the scene at the same time which means that you don’t have to keep repeating the same scene over and over. Having multi cameras on one scene can also provide more footage and different camera angles.
There are also some disadvantages of multi camera set ups, for example if someone makes a mistake while filming, the whole thing will have to be refilmed whereas this wouldn’t happen if you were using a single camera set up. Another problem could be is that sometimes things happen that aren’t expected like lights or recording equipment. Using a multi camera set up does not allow you to have as much control over the camera as you would if you used a single camera set up. Although using more the one camera can be pretty expensive for the production company.
