Task 10 - Skills development log

Production Diary

Name: Jade Wylie

Production:
Team: Jade, Asha, Devon and Wendy

Sheet no. 1

Date: 08/11/13

Location: College classroom
Time (from – to): 2-3pm

Activities: complete outline/ script

Personal Roles & Responsibilities Undertaken:

Outline all our ideas, with details on camera techniques, camera shots, times, locations, props etc.

Brief Description of Experiences:

We have all worked well together and have agreed on most of the ideas we have had, the only problems we can for see at the moment is being unable to obtain permission.

Date: 15/11/13

Location: Outside of college
Time (from – to): 1-2pm

Activities: completing out first shoot for part of the video

Personal Roles & Responsibilities Undertaken:
We filmed part of our music video, me and Wendy filmed it, Asha was the actor and Devon took care of the props

Brief Description of Experiences: (including problems encountered, teamwork, & what had been learned)

The only problems we encountered was that we were filming in the middle of the street and I was stand across the road filming this meant that car’s kept getting in the way so we had to keep reshooting it.  We all worked together to make a great first part of our music video.

Date: 5/12/13 – 31/1/14

Location: College classroom
Time (from – to): 1:15 – 4:30pm

Activities: Editing

Personal Roles & Responsibilities Undertaken:

As a team we captured each clip we filmed on the video onto the video camera onto Final Cut Pro. From there we cut the parts we wanted and put them onto the timeline where the video will be made.

Brief Description of Experiences:

We all edited it together, choosing which part goes where. It was fun watching the video back & watching it come together so well. It took us quite a while to edit it together because most of the clips the actor was mouthing the words, which made it harder to match it to the music in the programme – we had to either speed up or slow down each clip.

Task 9 Evaluation

Evaluation

To plan our video we first of all chose the song, we chose this song because everyone knows it and it’s very catchy and upbeat. Using this song will also appeal to our young target audience as most of them will know this song well. To come up with our idea’s we just thought of stupid silly things that could go in there that would fit with the music and appeal to the target audience. To allocate roles we went out with the camera to do test shots, when this happened only 2 out of 4 students were in. This then left me to do the filming and Asha to do the acting, doing this made the roles fall into place. The other 2 people that weren't in they then helped me film & edit the video.

When it came to filming everything went well and according to plan although we didn't get a chance to film all the things we wanted to as we didn't have enough people to film with, this was a downside to the video since we were a small group. We also didn't have enough weeks to actually film the parts we wanted too, this would be an improvement to make if we ever wanted to make another video. All of the group helped when filming except the actor because he was in the video at all times, the actors were also in every week; this means that every week we were able to record something without a problem.

The editing took us a while to do because for most of the video the actor was mouthing the words, this made it harder to place into the video because the timing had to be precise. We also filmed a lot of footage which took quite a while to capture into the programme on the laptop; we then had to cut the pieces we wanted to use to place into the video. Placing the parts into the video wasn't really a problem as I did most of the editing so there wasn't really anyone to discuss where the parts went.

The target audience for our music video is young adults; the reason for this is because it’s modern popular chart music that appeals to young adults and using Asha and Aaron as the actors allows the audience to relate to the video as they are young adults themselves.
The props we used for the music video were all supplied by our group and we used a video camera & tripod to film it. Using different props and locations helped vary the video instead of having it in one place making it more interesting.

Overall I think our video worked well and our teamwork really showed within the outcome. We had a lot of fun making & producing the video. If i were to redo this task again I would get more people involved & make sure we film all the things planned instead of missing things out because of timing apart from that everything was fantastic.

From this unit I learnt how to use a video camera and the different types of shots you can do in video. I also learnt how to use a programme called Final Cut Pro, we used this to edit and add the music to our video. With Final Cut Pro i learnt how to capture footage from a video camera, how to 'mark in and mark out' for the parts of video you want to cut to put into the timeline, how to add music to the timeline, how to speed up and slow down a clip & how to cut parts from a clip while its on the timeline. I think learning all these different things will advantage me in the future because I could end up using that programme again eventually and I would know the basics of using Final Cut Pro.

Task 8 Music Video

This is our groups final music video

Task 7 Pre Production Documentation

We developed our initial idea's for our music video and put more detail into it. We put more thought into what different types of shots we would use, what order the shots were going to be in, how long each shot would last, what props and actors we could use in each shot and a brief description of what would be happening in the shot.

Here are the risk assessments we completed before each of our production sessions:
